The second season has begun with a "W" for our Lions!!! Congratulations to the Lions Football Team for their victory
over the Vikings from Downs Tri-Valley.
The Vikings came into Bush Field obviously keying on a few players and were shown by Coach Evers that we have an entire
TEAM of good players. Everyone pulled together and completed their assigned jobs and proved what has often been said
about the sport of football...it is the ultimate team sport. The Lions fans are very proud of our boys and look
forward to week's game.
Speaking of next week's game...I have been told by some of my Northern friends, that the Blue Devils of Bismarck-Henning
are already visiting our site in order to gain a little information about our Lions and our facilities. Welcome to our
site, Blue Devils fans!!! You will find that we welcome visitors and treat our guest with the utmost respect and good
sportsmanship. There will be two entrance gates again this week. One on the North side of Bush Field (near the
visitor's side), and one on the East side. Gates open at 11:00am with Game time at 1pm.
We will again be tailgating in the parking lot prior to game time. If you have never participated in a Marshall
Lions tailgate...you are missing a lot of fun. We have some very experienced grillers on hand preparing food for the
tailgate. Besides preparing the food, they will also offer their insight on topics ranging from football, to the secret
of life. You never know what this group of fun guys will talk about. So, come out and take part in the tailgate.
Just bring whatever meat you would like cooked and a side dish to share. It's a great time!!!
The decorations at fieldside for game one were terrific!!! Parents and fans, it's time to do it again. Don't
forget to bring your decorated pillow cases and sheets back to fieldside Saturday morning and let everyone know how proud
we are of our Lions players, mgrs. cheerleaders and coaches. It is really an awesome sight to see so much support for
the football program.
We would like to express a very special and heartfelt THANK YOU to Mr. Gerald Ewbanks from Murphysboro. This is
Mr. Ewbanks second year in volunteering to come all the way up here to feed our team. He said he does so because he
loves the comraderie and excitement of football and loves supporting it in anyway he can. Mr. Ewbanks grew up in the
Marshall/Martinsville area, before moving away, and has fed our team after the first round of playoffs for the last two years
free of charge. He and his entire crew of helpers are deeply appreciated and in keeping with our motto have been named
"HONORARY LIONS."
Don't forget that the Quarterback Club will meet each Wednesday at the high school. Meeting times have been moved
up 1/2 hour to 6:00 pm at Coach Evers' request. Come to our meetings and view game films and hear comments from our
head coach.
Keep checking back to our site often as information will be posted more and more frequently now that the season is here.
